Support for Parents

Between social media and gaming, time and financial pressures, the parenting landscape is tricky.

Today, anxiety and school refusal is also escalating and expectations on parents are higher than ever. We know that being a parent is to play the long game and requires even more capacity than it did for our parents.

Parent coach

Kinder Communities can help. Our co-founder, Janet, is pleased to offer comprehensive and engaging coaching sessions for modern-day parents.

As the single parent of two neurodivergent young adults, Jan has a passion for raising emotionally and socially intelligent children. She has practiced meditation and mindfulness for 30 years, which significantly informs her own parenting and the support she provides for other parents.

In addition to her professional experience in violence prevention, Jan has a background in fine art and art therapy. These skills and her lived experience make her well equipped to help other mums and dads with their challenges.

Jan would be pleased to hear from you. Have a chat over a coffee, in person or online, your first 30-minute session is free.

Lived experience:

Across many areas of Jan's life, she has either parented her own children or supported others through exceptionally challenges times in their lives. These areas include:

Neuro divergence/learning difficulties:

  • Dyslexia

  • Dysgraphia

  • ADHD

  • Autism

Mental health challenges:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Self harm

  • Suicidal ideation

  • Early childhood trauma and its impact

  • Bullying

Jan has:

  • raised a child with a chronic health, sometimes life threatening illness;

  • raised two children while having a chronic illness herself;

  • been a single parent for over decade;

  • used mainstream and alternative therapies for health and emotional well-being;

  • a comprehensive knowledge and application of self compassion practices;

  • extensive knowledge and application of mindfulness techniques & meditation.

"I sought advice from Jan when dealing with a 14 year old family member who was exhibiting new and significantly concerning behaviours at home, school and socially, including refusal to participate in class, class avoidance, running away and tantrums to get her way. Jan has an extensive knowledge across the areas of neurodiversity and trauma response and her insights gave me some paths to pursue which neither I, nor her school, had considered. When faced with the confusion of how to broach such unexpected and difficult to comprehend behaviours, Jan is a very open, warm, calm and knowledgeable person who supports you to gently look deeper at the possibilities in terms of root causes and potential steps forward."
